The Ferrari team competing in the Formula 1 World Championship announced that it will include British Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
Mercedes announced that its driver, Hamilton, the seven-time world champion in Formula 1, will leave the team at the end of this season.
With the German team, Hamilton dominated the world championship title in the Formula 1 driver category, between 2014 and 2020, winning six of his seven world titles with Mercedes during that period, and equaling the record set by Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton is also the driver with the most victories in Formula 1 Grand Prix races (103), and he also had the most podium finishes (197).
“Mercedes has been a part of my life since I was 13 years old, it’s where I grew up,” Hamilton said.
He continued: “Making the decision to leave was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but this is the right time for me to take this step, and I am excited to take on new challenges.”
Ferrari recently announced that its current driver, Charles Leclerc, extended his contract for several years to continue racing with the team after the end of 2024.
Hamilton is scheduled to replace the departure of Spaniard Carlos Sainz, who said today that he will part ways with Ferrari at the end of this year.
Ferrari tried to contract with the British driver more than once in recent years, but his previous offers were rejected, because Hamilton felt that Mercedes opened a better path for him to achieve success.
However, after two frustrating seasons with the German team that has been unable to achieve a win in Formula 1 since December 2021, it appears that Hamilton may be convinced to join the Italian team.
Lewis Hamilton previously said that he dreamed, as a child, of driving the famous Italian team, which holds the record for the number of times it has won the Formula 1 title in the constructors’ category, with 16 titles.
At the end of last season, Hamilton seemed skeptical about his belief in Mercedes’ ability to recover from two difficult seasons and challenge Red Bull, which won three consecutive titles in the drivers’ category with its Dutch driver Max Verstappen in the past three seasons and return to regain the constructors’ category title, which the team missed in the last two years. .
Hamilton was scheduled to remain with Mercedes in 2024 and 2025 after extending his contract with the team last year, but he decided to activate the contract termination clause.
Mercedes will search for a replacement for Lewis Hamilton, to join the British George Russell in the team at the end of the current season, while Sainz will search for a new team.
Among the most prominent drivers, only Spanish veteran Fernando Alonso will be available to join Mercedes, given that his contract with Aston Martin expires this year.
Among the other drivers whose contracts expire at the end of the 2024 season are Mexican Sergio Perez, a Red Bull driver, Australian Daniel Ricciardo from RB, and former Mercedes driver Finnish Valtteri Bottas, who is currently at Kick Sauber.
Max Verstappen, the world champion for the last three seasons in the driver category, has a contract with Red Bull until 2028, while Lando Norris signed a new contract with McLaren until 2026.

He revealed his opinion about his departure from the national team for treatment in Liverpool: “Mohamed Salah is a great player, and he has a commitment to his country. He may have been betrayed by success in his behavior. We may not have his point of view. I do not know the scenes.”
The bodybuilding champion added: “Mohamed Salah is a symbol. Even if he does not realize this, we realize this. This is not his will, this is his destiny. You must think once, twice and three times, even if you think about yourself. Everyone sees you as a model.”
Rami sent a message to Rami Abbas, Salah’s agent, saying: “I do not understand that an agent interferes in the life of a player like Salah, to the extent that he has the freedom to express his opinion on personal decisions. I do not understand why? And I do not understand why he speaks on his behalf.”
He added: “It is not right for you to go out and speak in the name of Mohamed Salah. He is old, sane and aware and can speak for himself and convince people while speaking from his heart.”
