Senior public sector employees in Germany requested to stop exporting weapons to the Israeli occupation, and to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.
About 600 senior public sector employees in Germany called on Chancellor Olaf Scholz to immediately stop the supply of weapons to Israel.
According to the Freiheitsliebe news website, senior public sector employees sent a letter to Schulz in this regard.
The letter called for stopping the supply of weapons to Israel and continuing to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.
The employees stressed that Germany must do everything in its power to persuade Israel to allow urgent aid to be delivered to the Gaza Strip.
The letter also stated: “Sanctions must be imposed on Israel, and Germany must immediately take appropriate measures within the framework. This includes freezing political and economic relations with Israel.”
The letter indicated that voices criticizing the Israeli government’s inhumane actions that violate international law have been systematically silenced by the German government, and that critics are being marginalized and criminalized.
The employees added: “We are also afraid that we will be accused and punished for expressing our opinion, so we deliberately do not reveal the names of the signatories to the letter. The truth is that freedom of expression, which is protected by the constitution in Germany, is very restricted in 2023.”
Germany had agreed to export weapons worth 326.5 million euros to Israel in 2023.
Since last October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that has left tens of thousands martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, according to Palestinian sources, which necessitated the trial of Tel Aviv before the International Court of Justice on the grounds of “genocide.”
