The golfer and social media influencer Paige Spiranac is speaking out to defend herself after she found herself in hot water for once again posting a racy photo of herself on the golf course to social media.

Spiranac Gets Backlash For Instagram Photo

Daily Mail reported that it all started last Friday, when Spiranac, 30, took to Instagram to post a photo of herself wearing a skin-tight white collared shirt along with a skirt that was so short that a portion of her backside could be seen. Spiranac appears unfazed by this in the image as she holds a flagstick in her right right hand with a smile on her face.

“Do you like to leave the pin in or pull out?” Spiranac wrote in the caption.

Though the post has received over 128,000 likes at the time of this writing, it also garnered tons of backlash from social media users who thought that Spiranac had gone too far this time, according to The New York Post.

“Paige, you don’t need to get tacky to keep the brand doing well,” one social media user commented. “This is a little bit more than is needed.”

Another social media user accused Spiranac of deleting negative comments.

“Ah, now you’re deleting comments?!” he wrote. “Yet it’s ok for these dudes to throw sexual innuendos at you? How many fathers want their daughters to be treated the same? Is this a good influence? Because I said you are sexualizing golf and using it as a crutch to make financial gains as easy as possible? That’s a shame. Accountability.”

Spiranac Fires Back

Spiranac later addressed the backlash on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It’s amazing the outrage this outfit is causing on Instagram,” she wrote. “It’s just a little cheeky or booty cleavage as I like to say lol. I think it’s quite tame and this picture is cute. Thoughts?”

Spiranac also defended herself in the comments section of her initial post.

“I’m literally wearing a full golf outfit. Just a very small amount of cheek is showing. You can’t see anything,” she wrote.

Spiranac Defends Her Clothing Choices

Last month, Spriranac defended the way that she dresses, claiming that there was also once an uproar over a time when she dressed conservatively.

“There was one time where I wore a full turtleneck [and] leggings,” she recalled. “I was completely covered from head to toe, and people were upset with my outfit.”

“When that happened, I just said, ‘OK, well I’m just going to do what I want to do, and I’m going wear what I want to wear and if people like it, great and if they dislike it, OK great,’” she added.

Spiranac further opened up about her clothing choices in an interview back in September.

“I was a gymnast before I switched into golf,” Spiranac told Sports Illustrated. “I was so comfortable wearing spandex and very little of it because that’s just what you wear when you’re wearing a leotard and you’re competing.

“When I switched into golf, we were struggling a little bit financially, and so I didn’t have the luxury to go out and buy a whole new golf-appropriate wardrobe. And so, I wore what was in my closet, which was workout clothes,” she continued. “That’s just how I learned to play the game.”

‘It Really Rubs People The Wrong Way’

Spiranac finds it strange that professional golfers aren’t permitted to wear the same kinds of clothing that other athletes get to wear.

“That was always my mindset when I got into golf, and it really rubs people the wrong way, which is shocking,” she said. “They’ll have really intense discussions over if they should wear shorts or pants or a blade collar or a real collar, and I’m just out here just in tank tops or spandex and people are like, ‘What are you doing?’ But I love it.”

“But we’re starting to see that change and fashion is a big part of growing the game, and it’s moving in the right direction,” she added.
