8 medical tips to prevent influenza

Istanbul: Influenza is one of the most common diseases in the world, as its incidence increases with the entry of autumn and into winter, due to low temperatures and a decline in the body’s immunity.

Doctor Ibrahim Topal Ali, from the Turkish Kocaeli State Health Directorate, provides Anatolia with a set of advice on dealing with influenza, ways to prevent it, and the importance of the vaccine.

Tubal Ali said in his speech: “This disease occurs when the body is infected with one of the types of influenza viruses, as it attacks the respiratory system in general, including the lungs, throat and nose area, and sometimes it also affects the digestive system.”

He added: “Influenza causes symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, muscle pain, and diarrhea in some other cases, as this disease is particularly widespread during the fall and winter seasons.”

Regarding the reason for this, the doctor explained that the influenza virus “is transmitted from one person to another through the air when an infected person sneezes or coughs, or when touching anything contaminated with the virus, such as placing one’s hands on a contaminated doorknob.”

Topal Ali highlighted the importance of receiving the influenza vaccine annually, saying: “We must prevent this disease by taking the vaccine that contains parts of the genetically modified virus, which helps the body develop immunity against it.”

Below is a set of preventive tips to enhance ways to protect against this disease:

1- Receiving the influenza vaccine, as this is considered necessary, especially for people at risk, such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic diseases and weak immunity.

2- Washing hands with soap and water regularly can reduce transmission of infection and disease.

3- Cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing using a tissue to avoid spreading germs, which reduces their spread in the air and on objects.

4- Avoid crowded places as much as possible in cases of the spread of influenza in general.

5- Maintain a healthy, appropriate diet by eating foods rich in vitamins, especially vitamin C, and foods that contain minerals that can strengthen the immune system.

6- Exercising, as regular physical activity contributes to enhancing the body’s immunity and strength.

7- Good sleep plays an important role in strengthening the immune system, by getting sufficient and comfortable hours of sleep.

8- Drink plenty of fluids, as drinking them regularly helps keep the respiratory system hydrated.

The doctor concluded his speech by saying: “It must be remembered that following these preventive tips can reduce the possibility of influenza infection and enhance immunity during the fall and winter season.”

Measles appears in a refugee center in Berlin and 600 people are placed in quarantine

BERLIN : A refugee arrival center in the Reinickendorf district of Berlin was placed in quarantine on Monday due to a measles outbreak.

About 600 residents are not allowed to leave the building at the present time, according to what the spokesman for the state office for refugees, Sasha Langenbach, told the German News Agency.

There were two children diagnosed with the highly contagious disease as of Monday, according to the report.

“It is difficult to impose further restrictions on the freedom of movement of people who are already living in overcrowded conditions there,” Langenbach said, adding that a number of things must be checked in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

Those vaccinated against measles among refugees and the age of residents must be examined, among other things.

In order to explain the situation, language intermediaries who speak Turkish, Arabic or Persian will be employed.

According to Langenbach, precautionary measures have been taken to protect residents. He added: “The Ministry of Health has made masks mandatory.”

He added that this is a difficult measure, but safety comes first, and the distribution of food and health supplies remains guaranteed.
